The alumni José Luis Castro and Génnesis Pía García will present their documentary on Tuesday, April 10, at 8:00 PM at the Sucre Theater in the city of Cuenca. The audiovisual work is their integrative project, which was completed for the culmination of their studies in Design and Audiovisual Production. The work of these polytechnic graduates will be recognized and screened by the Municipality of Cuenca.
The documentary, "The Hummingbird's Flight," tells the story of Gerardo Machado, a native of Cuenca who inherited the art of calligraphy from his family. Currently, Machado is dedicated to preserving his country's cultural heritage by drawing, painting, and writing various works on sheep leather sheets.
In his narratives, Machado describes the history of his city, its heroes, and some religious figures. The protagonist of the documentary has pursued the task of developing the craft of calligraphy in his writings, elevating it to the level of art. The initiative to screen the documentary was born from the Municipality of Cuenca through its Municipal Cultural Directorate, with the support of the Municipal Economuseum Casa del Sombrero.
The directors of these institutions believe that the audiovisual work is a contribution to the National Culture, as it not only portrays Gerardo Machado's artistic work but also presents the city's architectural and intangible heritage.
