FADCOM professor presented a paper at the V Meeting on Graphic Design Research

The master teacher Lourdes Pilay, participated in the V Meeting of Research in Graphic Design with her presentation “Design for the valuation of the graphic-cultural heritage of the city” result of a first stage of the doctoral study that she is studying at the University of Lisbon. The event took place on September 4, 5 and 6, at the headquarters of the School of Public Relations of the Autonomous University of Barcelona (UAB), in Spain.

In this space he presented two cases in which graphic design contributes to the sustainability of cultural heritage. A topic of particular interest to the author and that is the main core of her study; her proposal seeks that design be understood as a vehicle for the dissemination and transmission of heritage both in the exercise of valuation and in strengthening the identity of local symbols.  He also presented at the congress the text that is part of the project “Patrimonio Silencioso” (Silent Heritage), an iconographic register of visual signs characteristic of the heritage architecture of the city of Guayaquil.

The symposium was attended by various public and private universities, the Graphic Design College of Catalonia and Graphic Design Research Centers in Spain located in the top rankings of the world. The event featured two keynote lectures, given by two eminent Spanish Graphic Design, the Doctor of Philosophy, specialist in Theory of Mass Communication and Semiotics, Miquel de Moragas and the communicologist and designer Joan Costa, renowned researcher and writer of the discipline since the early 70's, his texts have been a guide for the scientific construction of design and its contribution to society.
