Débora Clavijo García, student of the Bachelor's Degree in Graphic Design, has been selected and admitted to the prestigious LV Salón de Pintura Ambato 2025 with her work “La Gran Corriente”. This piece, made as a final project of the subject Drawing II, stood out among 89 works submitted by 85 artists from all over the country. The Luis A. Martínez National Salon is one of the most important platforms for the dissemination of art in Ecuador. To be selected in this space represents a significant recognition to the talent and effort of emerging artists, giving them visibility in the national art scene.
The selection process took place on February 10, 2025, where a jury made up of renowned artists Sonia Kraemer, Carlos Rojas and David Moscoso evaluated each work based on its technical, conceptual and aesthetic aspects. “La Gran Corriente” was one of the 23 pieces selected to be part of the salon's exhibition. “The Great Current” represents the life processes and challenges that all people face. The current symbolizes the difficulties and challenges, while the fish represent those who navigate these processes.
The piece conveys the message that, from birth, there are obstacles and prejudices that can hinder growth. However, the journey itself is an essential part of personal development. The work was created with mixed techniques, including charcoal, charcoal pencil, graphite and India ink in black, blue and red. Through these elements, Clavijo captures a profound reflection on life and the challenges we face. The work was initially conceived as a final project for Drawing II.
Mr. Billy Soto, Ms., encouraged his students to consider the contest as an opportunity for learning and artistic growth, highlighting the importance of living the experience beyond the competition. The awards ceremony will take place on Friday, February 28 at 6:30 pm at the City Hall in Ambato.
At this event, certificates of participation will be given to the artists whose works were admitted to the exhibition. The artist has dedicated this work to God, whom she considers her guide in every step of her artistic journey. For her, “La Gran Corriente” is a significant creation, as it marks the beginning of her career in art.
This selection achieved in the Ambato 2025 Painting Salon is a testimony to the effort and creativity that FADCOM students can achieve with dedication and proper guidance.
