CIICATI 2024: A Gathering of Audiovisual and Technological Research

The third edition of the International Congress of Researchers in Audiovisual Communication and Information Technologies (CIICATI) was held on October 9, 2024, in a hybrid format, with both virtual and in-person presentations at the Faculty of Art, Design, and Audiovisual Communication (FADCOM) of the Escuela Superior Politécnica del Litoral (ESPOL).

The event began with a welcome speech by Nayeth Solórzano, Dean of FADCOM, who emphasized the importance of research in the audiovisual field and expressed gratitude to attendees for their participation. Nayeth, along with Guillermo Doylet, presented the talk "Educational Use Experience of Serious Games: Musical vs. Narrated and Its Impact on Young Children and Children with ASD," which sparked great interest among the audience.

he first keynote address was delivered by Mtr. Jimmy Tapia, who, in a virtual format, presented "Readings on the Crisis in Conventional Media," offering a deep reflection on the current state of the media. This was followed by the Communication panel, where Juan Pablo Toro analyzed "Audiovisual Narratives in Media Coverage of Natural Disasters in Ecuador," followed by Pamela Sánchez with her presentation on "Advertising, Marketing, and Branding." Marcelo Báez presented an intriguing proposal titled "The Trace of Your Cinema on Stage: La misma sangre by Sebastián Cordero, Ratas, Ratones, Rateros Moves to the Theater as a Sequel," and María Vanessa Vera discussed "Digital Marketing Strategies for the Adoption of AI-Generated Content on Visual Platforms." Andrea Pino spoke on "Co-Design and Photovoice as Tools to Promote Educational Tourism in Children," and Gabriela Alvarado closed the panel with a presentation on "Threats in the Digital Era."

The Audiovisual Reality panel continued with a presentation by María Emilia García on "1917 and the Forbidden Montage." José Luis Castro and Paola Martínez shared their experiences with museum digitization during the pandemic, while Valentina Rivas reflected on the bubble filter effect in the digital age. The congress continued in the afternoon with the virtual panel on Emerging, Interactive Technologies, and Social Networks. Angel Lema and Nataly Punina discussed the "Impact of TikTok on Youth Identity Formation," and Jonatan Portugal, Gilda López, and Dennis Chang addressed the "Impact of Multimedia Production Applied to Education." Justine Mera presented on business perception of design in Ecuador. Steven Bernabé closed this panel with an analysis of brand strategy on TikTok during the 2023 electoral runoff.

The Miscellaneous panel provided a rich variety of topics, ranging from the use of artificial intelligence in teaching, presented by Eduarda Cepeda and Isabela Durán, to an analysis of neuromarketing and politics in Ecuador by Jonatan Portugal. Gianella Bermeo highlighted the importance of digital platforms for showcasing photographic work, while Henry Andrés Escobar explored the influence of pre-Columbian cultures on contemporary Ecuadorian design. Isabel Posligua concluded with a study on hypertext in digital radio in Santa Elena.

The congress closed with a presentation by Ph.D. Cristian Cortez, who offered a comprehensive "Roadmap of the Beginnings of Ecuadorian Audiovisual," providing attendees with a key historical perspective.

CIICATI 2024 reaffirmed its importance as a space for academic and professional exchange, promoting advancements in the fields of audiovisual communication and information technologies.
