The exhibition called “Naipes y tarot” was inaugurated last week and was made by students of the subject History of Design, a final project for the class taught by Cristina Morales. The exhibition included the search for elements that could be used to apply the theoretical knowledge seen in the course.
The objective was to rescue part of Ecuadorian culture by applying influences from different cultures, such as Inca, Mesopotamian, Chinese, Armenian, among others. Gods, animals, iconic representatives of cinema, were some of the characters used in their designs and illustrations. The students were able to observe how the cards are implements widely used in Ecuadorian homes as part of children's games or games of chance.
Different styles were observed in the exhibition. Some projects featured the application of the classic Marseilles Tarot style, influenced by the futuristic movement, turning the classic into something contemporary. The exhibition culminated on Friday 26th, where several EDCOM students were able to appreciate the works as well as a video made by the students, where experts on the subject, teachers and the students themselves shared their appreciation regarding the use and implementation of tarot and playing cards.
