
La Rueda is an event of student participation and integration organized by the School of Design and Visual Communication (EDCOM) which is open to the public. This year, La Rueda will count with the participation of national and international guests.
The event will take place over two days, during which conferences, workshops, round tables and exhibitions will be held. On November 14, the conferences will take place from 9:00 to 13:30 at the FLOM Auditorium, located on Rocafuerte and Tomás Martínez streets.
Among the speakers are: Luisana Carcelén, a passionate of the audiovisual world who has participated in several academic projects of documentary research of intercultural content of Amazonian peoples.
Also participating will be Gonzalo Janer, from Colombia, industrial designer and Master in Computer Art, currently living in New York and working at Nickelodeon as an animator and motion graphics artist.
Also in attendance will be Erika Coello, graphic designer and illustrator from Guayaquil, founder of Dos Cabezas, a space where local and Latin American design is trained and promoted through teaching and Diego Giaccone, graphic designer graduated from the University of Buenos Aires, director of Sure Brandesing, co-founder of the digital foundry Sudtipos.com.
In the afternoon a series of workshops are scheduled to be held in classrooms of ESPOL Campus Las Peñas. The workshops can be entered prior registration on the official website of La Rueda.
Marcos Negrete, ESPOL graduate and creator of the handmade binding project “Volátil” will present the workshop: Fanzine making, where an introduction to the fanzine will be addressed through playful exercises on paper to create a collective publication.
Gerardo Machado, calligrapher from Cuenca, director of the Ecomuseum Casa del Sombrero in the Municipality of Cuenca, will give the workshop: calligraphy, with a brief introduction to this art, each participant will learn basic techniques of strokes to mold the writing.
Kari Barragán, graphic designer, specialist in photography and experimental editorial design, will develop the workshop: visual communication systems, here will be developed the strategy and planning of visual systems from the communicational and graphic design.
Alba Aguiar, graduate in Audiovisual Communication from the University of Vigo, art director of several short films, will give the workshop: blood in the wardrobe, which will address an introduction to the effect of blood in the costumes applied in the shooting in fiction.
Silvia Marcos, publicist and Master in Performing Arts Management from the University of Barcelona, will develop the workshop: engraving with tetrabik matrix, where she will present the technique of engraving on recycled matrix, using tetrapack cartons as support to make prints.
From 4:30 p.m. onwards, round tables will be held in the hexagonal auditorium of the ESPOL Campus Las Peñas, with the participation of Libertad Gills, Miguel Viejó and Guadalupe Pilay.
In keeping with tradition, at El Mono Goloso (located at 202 Luzárraga and Panamá streets) and at La Culata (located at Córdova and Mendiburo) a series of exhibitions with works by EDCOM students have been prepared.
