The new students of the Escuela Superior Politécnica del Litoral (Espol) found the Gustavo Galindo Campus turned into a magical world last Wednesday, May 6. The clubs of the institution recreated the fictitious world of the Harry Potter literary saga to welcome their classmates.
This semester 622 students have joined the Polytechnic Community. The Vice Rector, Cecilia Paredes, as well as Nelson Paz and Camilo Márquez, head and director of Polytechnic Welfare, dressed up as Minerva McGonagall, Albus Dumbledor and Kingsley Shacklebolt, to complete the atmosphere.
After a brief explanation of student affairs in the auditorium of the Faculty of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science (FIEC), the polytechnic students went on a tour of the campus guided by their “prefects”. In the main buildings of each faculty they found contests planned by the institution's clubs. The General Coliseum was the last stage the students visited and there they found wizards, dementors and a huge “Sorting Hat”.
The hazing ended around 13h00 after a quidditch match, played by the newly formed Handball Club. The Anifonix club from the School of Design and Visual Communication (Edcom), provided live music for the party.
This is the third year that Espol welcomes its freshmen with a themed party. In 2013 the Star Wars world was the chosen one, while last year the aesthetics of the Super Mario Brothers world was used.
