The winning work, submitted under the pseudonym Gabriela Clavo sin Canela, is entitled El Síndrome Salinger and addresses the theme of gender violence. The jury, composed of writers Raúl Serrano Sánchez, Patricio Herrera Crespo and Lenin Paladines Paredes, highlighted the originality, style and the use of a variety of literary resources that allow for the construction of an interesting novel.
Báez Meza, who has won nine national literature awards, among them the Aurelio Espinosa Pólit and the Jorge Salazar International Short Story Prize, is participating for the first time in this contest. The work is currently being reviewed and corrected by the Editorial Board and, by February 2024, the public presentation of the work and the awarding of the Miguel Riofrío prize to the winner will take place.
Marcelo Báez's triumph is a recognition of his professional excellence and commitment to Ecuadorian literature.
