"Innovative Immersive Technologies for Forestry Education" is a community-based project aimed at addressing the lack of attention to forestry education in Ecuador and Latin America by utilizing immersive technologies, such as interactive simulations and virtual reality, to educate about forest management and biodiversity conservation.
The project, led by Rodrigo Saraguro, M.Sc., identifies suitable subjects and spaces in collaboration with teachers and administrators of the Unidad Educativa Hermano Francisco Gárate. It involves implementing virtual reality tours where immersive classes are taught and practical activities are conducted.
This project aims to raise awareness about the importance of forests and biodiversity, contributing to the conservation of ecosystems and aligning with Sustainable Development Goal 15 (SDG 15).
Additionally, multiple educational tools were developed and updated, including a 3D video game and a virtual reality tour, enabling students to understand the importance of forests in combating climate change. After the interventions, beneficiaries showed a high level of awareness regarding the protection of native species.
