Vórtice 2026 kicked off with a day packed with design, audiovisual communication and creativityVórtice 2026 began on 14 October in the STEM building at ESPOL, with the participation of students, lecturers and professionals from Chile and abroad. The programme included four talks on film, artificial intelligence, art direction and creativity, as well as practical workshops on photomontage, digital collage and business strategy. The event promoted the exchange of experiences, hands-on learning and the connection between academic training and the professional world of design and audiovisual communication.
Diego Gómez, from DG Motors, spoke at FADCOM–ESPOL about how to build a memorable brandThe talk ‘Did you see that brand?’, delivered by Diego Gómez, a mechanic and CEO of DG Motors, brought together around 80 students from FADCOM–ESPOL to explore how strategic communication and content creation strengthen a brand’s identity. Drawing on his experience, Gómez shared tools for connecting with audiences on social media and emphasised that the challenge is not just to generate views, but to ensure that a brand remains in the public’s memory.
HOLDI, a student project from FADCOM–ESPOL, wins at the Latin American Design AwardsHOLDI, a portable and ergonomic accessory that makes it easier for people of short stature to hold on and improves their stability on city buses, was the winner of the Latin American Design Awards (LAD Awards) in the Product Design – Concept/Prototype category, Student division. The project was developed by Jeffersson Zambrano, Ariana Lozada and Belén Villegómez, students at FADCOM–ESPOL, under the guidance of lecturers Andy Rodríguez and Elizabeth Elizalde. This international recognition highlights the potential of design to drive more accessible and inclusive mobility solutions.
Lümia, a project by FADCOM–ESPOL students, wins at the Latin American Design AwardsLümia, a modular organiser inspired by the Bauhaus school, was one of the winning projects at the Latin American Design Awards (LAD Awards). La Tribu Guayaca, a student project from FADCOM, is a finalist in the Br 2026 Awards“La Tribu Guayaca,” a project developed by students in FADCOM's Design Workshop I under the guidance of Professor Da Hee Park, was selected as a finalist in the Br 2026 Awards. The project combines Guayaquil's cultural identity, creativity, and sustainability through the use of recycled paper and cardboard.
A Charm Adorns Your Face: Explorations of the PortraitFADCOM students, under the guidance of Professor Alla Kondratova, present “A Charm Adorns Your Face,” an exhibition of portraits created in the Drawing II course, in which they explore human identity and expression using techniques such as graphite, charcoal, chalk, and colored pencils.
POSCA Lab: From Text to Visual InterpretationFADCOM students, under the guidance of professor Daniel Castelo, present “POSCA Laboratory,” a series of illustrated posters based on literary and narrative texts, created through processes of research, conceptualization, and graphic experimentation with acrylic markers.

From concept to print: FADCOM students explore different printing systemsThe exhibition “From concept to print,” curated by professors Antonio Moncayo and Franklin Guadalupe, features works by students in the Printing Techniques program who apply their graphic designs to T-shirts, bags, and mugs using DTF and sublimation, demonstrating how designs can be adapted to different media and materials.
Paola Ulloa is conducting a research stay in São PauloPaola Ulloa, a member of the FADCOM academic staff, is undertaking a postdoctoral fellowship in São Paulo, Brazil, to research the social media communication strategies of Latin American governments, thereby strengthening academic exchange and international collaboration.
